28/03/2007 ASMER AND HITECH LEAD THE WAY AT OULTON
TEAM NEWS: Marko Asmer and the Silverstone-based Hitech Racing team continued it’s pre-season testing form with the quickest lap around Oulton Park’s 2.69mile International Circuit yesterday. The 22 year-old Estonian steered his Dallara F307 Mercedes HWA around the Cheshire track in a time of 1m28.4seconds, 0.143 seconds ahead of his nearest rival to lead the 30-car field.
His rookie team-mate Austrian Walter Grubmüller again turned in an impressive performance, flying straight in from Austria to complete 59 trouble-free laps of the track in yesterday afternoon’s four-hour official session. The 18 year-old, who also contested the Australian GP F3 support race, has quickly adapted to F3 following his time in the Renault Eurocup and is steadily improving at every session.
With testing now finished prior to the first race, just over a week away, David Hayle’s team looks to be in a strong position to challenge for outright honours when the 22-round series kicks off at Oulton Park on Easter Monday 9th April. The team has now been consistently quick throughout the tests this year with the experienced Asmer determined to lift the title for the young team.
David Hayle: “It was another very good test and I’m encouraged by Marko’s consistency which has once again put him at the top of the timesheets. Walter has again impressed with his ever-improving performance which netted him the 11th quickest time, which for a first time in an F3 car on a track like Oulton was a very creditable result.”
